Hire or Mentor a Maroon

As a parent of a current Maroon, you know that our students are among the most talented in the world — critical thinkers who engage the world around them, ask compelling questions, and push the boundaries of existing knowledge. Members of the UChicago community enter the workforce eager to learn and use the skills they’ve gained from their education here. We think every business could benefit from bringing some more UChicago minds on board, whether for a few days, a summer, or a full-time position. Here’s how yours can:

Host a Spring Break Externship

The Alumni Board of Governors (ABG) Career Externship Program allows first- and second-year College students to shadow parents and alumni on-the-job for 2 or 3 days during spring break. This program, a joint project of the ABG and Career Advancement, offers students a glimpse of the skills required for success in a particular industry. For more information or to sign up as an externship sponsor, please visit the ABG Career Externship Program.

Host or Sponsor a Metcalf Intern

You can help UChicago students gain valuable insights and work experience through summer internships in a variety of fields. Please consider offering an internship at your company or nonprofit organization through the Jeff Metcalf Internship Program.  Last year, this competitive program offered just over 700 internships. The College seeks to increase the number of internships to over 1000 by 2016. A $4,000 gift to the College will provide an additional Metcalf internship opportunity to an undergraduate.  If you are interested in offering an internship or funding a Metcalf intern, or would like to learn more about volunteering with Career Advancement, please contact Marthe Druska at mdruska@uchicago.edu or visit the Career Advancement website.

Fill a Full-Time Position

Employers can post full time job opportunities on our online job board, Chicago Career Connection. This online database allows employers to reach thousands of qualified students and alumni from the University of Chicago from anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. To register for an account, employers can follow the link in the Chicago Career Connection login module on the main Recruit & Hire page.

The Employer Relations team can work directly with the employer to develop effective methods for recruiting undergraduate and graduate students and offer strategies to develop and maintain a visible presence on campus. A member of the Employer Relations team will connect employers with qualified applicants and can also set up on-campus interviews if the employer would like to interview candidates on our Hyde Park campus.
