Parent and Family Philanthropy

Philanthropy from our parent and family community helps to support important initiatives offered by the College in support of student success. The generosity shown by UChicago families has helped to the College to build and expand many of the hallmark programs that make this place so special. We invite philanthropically-minded parents to consider making a gift to the College or getting involved with one of our giving groups outlined below.

Dean's Parent and Family Council

This group of parents and other significant family members are active philanthropists who are able to make an impact through both advocacy and financial support. Members make a major gift during their service as well as a gift of $15,000 a year to the Dean’s Fund for Student Life or the Odyssey Scholarship Program. These gifts support Dean Boyer’s ongoing commitment to attract talented young people regardless of financial status and to making the College experience outstanding for every student. Each member also has a dedicated liaison to further engagement in all areas of the College.

Parent Ambassadors Circle

The newest opportunity for parent engagement, the Parent Ambassadors Circle is a group of supportive parents giving $2,500 or more annually to the area of the College of their choice. Ambassadors will receive special communications from the College and be invited to exclusive receptions and events on campus and around the country.

The Chicago Society

Parents and family members who are philanthropically-minded and committed annual donors at $2,500 and above are members of the Chicago Society.

Dean's Fund for Student Life and the Odyssey Scholarship Program

  • The Dean's Fund allows Dean Boyer to directly impact Student Life on campus. It exists to support and implement student ideas and development while also contributing to the academic and social life of the College.
  • The Odyssey Scholarship Program is the University's distinct model for tackling economic obstacles to education for hard-working students of intellectual promise and financial need. More than just financial aid, Odyssey is a comprehensive program of support including College prep, support for student programs like study abroad, and career development programs.

Gifts of any size are significant and can support student aid, study abroad, internships, and pre-professional programs, to name just a few programs. Giving participation by a large percentage of parents is a recognized benchmark of a successful institution and a ways to inspire greater support. You can make a gift online at anytime through our Make a Gift portal.

Parent and Family Honor Roll

Beginning with the 2014-2015 academic year, gifts of any amount will be honored and recognized in the Parent and Family Honor Roll, unless you desire your gift to remain anonymous.
